One of the most limiting things that I have run into on a regular basis in looking at calls for artist, is that to enter it costs money. That tends to limit access, especially when you have no money. I still enjoy looking at other entries, but becau…

A bunch of rotting bannanas as art. Well, mold can be quite exquisite depending on what color it turns. Actually it doesn't surpise me. There have been things like blank canvases and rocks and other such items that have found their way in to well kn…

The emperor and his clothes closet or altered clothes are just really patches that cover holes

For creating such a traveling headache, the snow is so slient when it falls.
I was pondering this amazing thing while looking out the window and watching it. When it collects it becomes this heavy weighted thing that has to be moved out of the way so that escape by what ever means can be achieved.

Life resembles that at times, so does art at times. Bits of this and that collect. Works that end up being more of a war than a flow. After a while it gets heavy to move around, and it can become a fi… Continue

25 photo additions, 27 pictures

I finally have gotten around to adding work that's been done over the last several months. When I looked at the photos as a group I noticed that they were pale with an exception here and there.
If art is a reflection of one's life, then mine is in the gray scale.

A few months passed

As the song starts..."It's been a while" . A few months by the terms of the calander.
It's been a mixture of working at a job that paid the bills and now being unemployed again and, and, and.
This is life sometimes. Mine anyway. I suspect that it happens to alot of people.

I haven't abandoned my art. But it shows the signs of internal struggle I've been lost in for too long.
I did some weird stuff, photo copies of pictures I took of myself and then colored over them in pen. I like what happened… Continue

Gouche

I've been reading up on this media the last few days. I've been curious as to what it is, what is it like to paint with, that kind of thing.

I know that it's opaque and there are two kinds of Gouche, waterbased and acrylic based. I found out that you could make cakes with it and that once it dried, (waterbased) it was re-wettable.
What I didn't like was how it was so tied up by all these rules. In art rules must be challanged. This is your art, not the teacher's or their teachers, but yours.

I… Continue

Words from a story that I don't think I've ever read.

This happens alot to me, I hear bits and peices of stories in my thoughts. I hear my voice, narating the kind of scene that could be found in any kind of story that you might read.
I don't know why this happens. But it's part of my normal world. Something that makes me feel odd at times.
I'm sure that this happens to writers. Otherwise they couldn't be story tellers. And we would be poorer because of it.

But I paint mostly, with the side trips into ball point pen, pencil, and some other stuff,… Continue

Moment of clarity, I like that, problem is my work is littered with them, as you say to try and repeat them is often difficult which is why I work on several projects at a time which in it's self can create additional problems. My college tutors use to say why did I make it so hard for myself, constantly pushing beyond the boundries of what was required, my only answer is that pressure, is what gave me pleasure. It took some time for the examiners to realise that my work didn't have a theme, but I was the theme, once they understood my precentages went from passes at 45/50% to an embarassing95%. The problem now is to create a consistant body of work which will find a market or gallery, time is not on my side, more often I hear from sucessful practitioners it has taken them 10/20/30 years to become comfortable with their work and to be able to earn a living, so I must accept the pleasures that your ' moments' give in return for that focused clarity rather than remuneration or 'success'. Again thanks for your comments and as always I welcome the dialogue.

Hi there lad , thank you for the comment on the blog, "Dr David Starkey"
It is all actually in fun. He said that on TV and I sent him that. He has already been voted the rudest man in England for his past behavior. He does this because he is so insignificant and camp, he just wants noticed. I doubt Scotland will or ever could be dented by whatever comes out of England. thanks for the comment

Ciao, I guess your style is your artistic signature, no ? We all have one I think, be it art or whatever, and if yours is "chess sandwich" style, it's as good as any :-)

Seriously, you have some great work, not least of all because it challenges the mind. What is ? Why is ?, etc.

Have a great Sunday !
