Best advice join www.a-n.co.uk, membership fee is reasonable, for which you get a monthly magazine, access to on-line air group and 'toolkits' in the form of supplements, one of which is Artist Fees, which is updated annually, so you will have the frame work for charges and contract letters. Another organisation is axxis, partly funded by the Arts Council, wth either free limited membershipship, or full membership for a annual subscription. As to your commission, ensure both you and the client fully understand what the final outcome will look like, agree a fee in writing, and get atleast 25% as a upfront payment to ensure your costs of materials etc are covered, so if the deal goes sour, then you are not out of pocket, and of course ensure you have payment before you leave the work with the client, if they are genuine you will not have a problem, if you have doubts walk away from the deal before you invest time and effort, a commission is only a commission if you get paid. Hope this helps .
