The book "What Is A Fractal" (above) was created originally to use as a portable and compact mini portfolio. I have been invited to address media arts students at various schools and felt the book would be a useful tool. The original has since been re-written to more simply explain fractal flame art. I was thrilled to provide one elementary school with 5 copies for their learning centre.

Fractal Flame Art/Photography

Profile Information

About Me:
As a newcomer to the digital art and photography world in my autumn years, photography and all forms of art have interested me throughout my life. I spent many years as a Marketing Director at a major shopping mall and now work part time as a Front End Supervisor in a grocery store. It pays the bills and helps to finance my fledgling business, Memotions. (Photography, Fractal Art and Slide Show Production)
About My Art:
I prefer nature photography, but will shoot almost anything that peaks my interest at the time. Seldom do I leave home without at least one camera.

Fractal Flame Art has become a passion in the last couple of years. I use Apophysis on PC and Oxidizer on Mac. Post processing is seldom used just to keep me challenged in the actual creation of the original piece. I attempt to mimic nature but like to keep the flames simple. The rendered pieces are not just accidental mutations of a starter flame. I work with specific variations and coordinates in an attempt to reproduce a vision in my mind...and I make every effort to have the end result turn out with an organic feel rather than something that is cold and so obviously mathematical. On occasion I feel like the "accidental artist" and end up with a fanciful piece that my eye and soul find pleasing. It's a constant learning experience with lots of room for growth and creativity.

To date, I have a photo published on Christina Kilbourne's "Where Lives Take Root" book cover and have done my first two art shows with another at the end of November. I would like to be able to spend more time on the art and photography. That is definitely my plan for the upcoming year. I try to let the energy around me guide me to create, be it with a camera or computer software.

Hi Patty, thank you for your comments. Music is a huge influence for me - aprticularly the music of Shostakovich and Bartok. I put alot of improvisations in my work as a way of communicating with new artists I meet. Best always from Luke ::)
