Profile Information

About Me:

It would be fair to say I have led a complicated life. I have been homeless several times and have a history of depression and drug use. In February 2008 I was sent to prison for possessing ecstasy with intent to supply. I served 6 months of a 21 month sentence at HMP Durham and HMP Acklington, followed by 4 ½ months on Home Detention Curfew. During my time in prison I got by selling drawing to other prisoners for tobacco.

My younger brother Terry was killed in a road traffic accident in 2005 and since then I have had more than my fair share of experiencing death, losing my Grandfather to a heart attack and my Grandmother through cancer. I am not afraid of death, you get used to it after a while.

When I was young I showed artistic potential, however, I quit art due as I was incapable of handling pressure. As singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan said, “Trying to force creativity is never good.” My interest in art began to slowly return as I found interest in comic books and I decided I wanted to be a comic book artist. Since 2007 I have become more productive and was attending a college course when I was sent to jail. This was a very low level art course, however, and I learnt nothing new from that experience. I attended college again this year but had to quit early in the course as I am soon to become homeless again and am unable to cope wit the extra pressure. I also felt that I did not have enough time to work on my own projects and was therefore finding no enjoyment in art. I feel that I am mainly self taught as I have learnt all I know from experience and books. Instead of wanting to become a comic book artist and be restricted to doing either penciling, inking or colouring, I now simply want to create my own images expressing my interests, beliefs, feelings and emotions.

About My Art:

Currently I use my artwork as an exploration of the dark side of my personality. My preferred media is copic pens or oil pastels.
