Profile Information

About Me:
GA Gardner vibrant, multi-layered art has been exhibited internationally in over 30 galleries and museums including Paterson Museum, Nanjing College of Art and Bergen Museum. A mixed media artist, Gardner began his professional art career in the US creating and exhibiting large format 3D computer fine art.

Gardner's art incorporates collage and mixed media techniques. His art has been seen on CNN's Larry King Live, in the New York Times, featured on Universal Records pop culture album covers, and in numerous international publications. In 2008, he created "Elements of Hope," a piece that received international media coverage. His 2010 "Haiti: Hope for the Children," was created to raise funds for the country. Gardner actively donates art to numerous non-profit organizations worldwide.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, in 1988 he migrated to the US. He studied fine art at Francisco State University. He received Bachelor’s of Arts and Master’s degrees and began to seriously examine the computer's ability to create fine art. Gardner created mixed media art and animation at The Ohio State University where he earned a Ph.D. in Art Education in 1995. He is considered an expert on computer art education and is the founder of DECATA (digital effect, computer animation, and traditional animation) Festival.

Gardner continues to create art that educates. He has authored 14 books on Art Education; has published over 60 books that are used in colleges and universities worldwide; has served as professor of art at various universities including William Paterson University and George Mason University. He has also presented papers at University of California Los Angeles, Florida A&M University and others, and has been an art consultant for the New York Board of Education, Fashion Institute of Technology, and numerous institutions.

His lives in Washington DC and creates in Brooklyn New York.
About My Art:
Mixed Media Collage

I am interested in creating work that tells the story of western civilization. To assist in that process I often use text in the content of the image to inform and educate about the painted subject. As an art educator, and anthropological artist I am breaking down various scenes into images, using elements such as textstraction, abstract backgrounds and reclaimed found objects such as paper, wood and metal to create a mixed media environment. I am attracted by subjects that tell stories or international icons born of or adopted into American culture. I am intrigued by contrasting images and other forms of dichotomy that are found in western culture. I enjoy painting, constructing scenes by deconstructing various images and putting them back together like jigsaw puzzles made up of pieces from divergent boxes.
