Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a self taught artist, just puddling my way through, reading art books, watching, listening, talking to as many artists as I can in order to learn. I love all mediums but work with mainly acrylics, though I adore watercolour and admire those who have mastered it.
I love my family, my friends and lots of laughter in my life. Have lived my life stepping in puddles, walking on cracks, and often getting into trouble along the way, so it has been interesting to say the least. I have an opinion and it counts, just as yours does. I respect everyone who calls a spade a spade and doesn't gloss things over with veneer. Life is here and now, and I want to live it. Gosh, there's so much filling every 24 hour period to inspire me, I just have to open my eyes, both physically and spiritually. So that's me ....Oh, one more thing,
I LOVE coffee and wine!!!!!!!!!!!
About My Art:
I am drawn to strong contrasts in light, strong rich colour and emotion. I am also drawn to different textures such as glass, fabric, stone, organics and liquid. I'm a romanitc and much of my work has a feminine strength which I believe comes from my passion for natural beauty.
Favorite Music:
I love silence because it frees my mind and allows me to think clearly. I do love music though, lots of genres from rock, e.g. Born to be Wild by Steppanwolf (not sure how to spell that) to strings orchestral.
Favorite Films:
Any and all
Favorite Artists:
Too many to mention.

Morning Joy

Oh summer rose thou purest sight
Draped in morning dew
My senses stir in sweet delight
As I cast mine eyes on you

I gently quake at your perfume
As my heart begins to soar
And caress the petals of thy bloom
For 'tis you that I adore

Sweet morning joy so full of grace
Dancing in the breeze
Such form as delicate as lace
How you bring me to my knees

You give yourself to those who see
Your charm beyond all praise
I thank the God who fashioned thee
To be the jewel in my days

Moving House

Wow I've not visited here much over the past week or so. We are moving from Christchurch, New Zealand to Perth, Australia on monday (Jan 19th) so life's been all about boxes lately. I miss painting, havn't painted for a while now and am itching to get back to it. Once we settle in Perth I will have a chance I guess.

I've been thinking about whether things will change creatively once I'm out of this familiar environment and into the new one. I have a feeling it will because I sense a desire to b… Continue

Thanks Elaine, and I'm glad you like the bushfire series. bit too close to home at the moment.. It was over 110 degreesF here today and the grass is so dry it crunches underfoot. :)
Bakers Hill is about 90k east of Perth and a lot hotter in summer and a lot cooler in winter. LOL. Maybe we could swap places. I reckon NZ is a lot milder.
I haven't had time to look at your site yet but your images scrolling across the screen at the moment are fantastic. I think that our styles maybe quite similar. I'm working on a Jessika Rose at the moment.
Perhaps we might catch up once you have moved.
Regards
Graham

Hi Elaine,
It's a real pleasure to see so many interesting artists on this site. But for Lavinia I would have missed it. One of your paintings (with poppies) looks a bit like Provence without the Alpilles.
I promise I'll get to the All Blacks soon !

Thank that sounds beautiful! When I paint on glass I do so it can be removed and put on canvas. Working from front to back add back round last.

Greetings Elaine, thank you for your kind words.
The quote is from a book called "illusions : Tales of a reluctant messiah" by Richard Bach. A fantastic read. You have a flawless technique in your works! Would that I had such patience and discipline.

Hi Elaine, Your continued kind words are welcomed, thankyou. though I suspect looking at your work, you have little need of being in my studio, though should you ever find yourself in the UK, feel free to call. best wishes Paul
