About Me:

Reached ( depending on who is talking ) status of much beloved and respected painter or grumpy old sod.
Lucky to be married to Sal.
I've mentioned Pasmore to a few and they've asked so here's the story. When I was 12 or 13 Pasmore was Prof of Fine Art at King's College and he decided to start a class for kids. We all had to do a few drawings and he selected about 20.........I suspect that I was taken 'cos my brother was one of his students but hey, why complain ! He was a grumpy old sod and he took us to the drawing gallery which was full of academy figures, boxes of large wooden geometric shapes, found objects etc., and he asked us what we wanted to do. Well, we knew no better so we said to him that we wanted to paint like Pollock, we didn't know that he didn't think too much of dear Jackson so he snarled at us, handed us charcoal and a pile of paper and we drew for a year. The drop out rate was high!
The following year he asked us again what we wanted to do and we, having learned a bit, said whatever you want us to do! He snarled again, took us up to a painting gallery and we thought, , splashy splashy, trickley trickley! He gave us brushes, paints and a pile of paper and said, mix that colour, that colour, that one , this one the other one. We mixed for a year , painted white on white, divided paper and hated every minute. He taught me so much that I didnt understand then, but it comes back now and again. I love his early portraits, wonderful smudgey colours and dark interiors. He taught us to be true to our guts, to paint from them, to paint anything that interested us and not a gallery owner. He was one of the Gods, I was lucky.

Photo-realist portrait painter gradually becoming more painterly and free.

Baroque to Country and almost anything in between.

Favorite Films:

Harry Potter, Fantasy, Cowboys, Comedy.

Favorite Artists:

Too little space..Rockwell to Ken Howard, but I suppose towering above them all is Velasquez with Rembrandt coming up on the inside rail.Mind you the most important one of all is my brother Christopher. Thanks Wid.
