Profile Information

About Me:
Education: Lycée français de Londres
Swiss school in Villars
Rebel debutante (ran away from my own 'coming out' ball !)
St Martins Art School
A late developer due to circumstances, mainly beyond my control, meant working even harder than most to become the painter I had always wanted to be since childhood - such bad luck as galleries are only interested in very young artists straight out of art school .... talk about age discrimination !
Anyway, please note, here I am, looking for a serious gallery to show my work - and there's a lot of it !
Otherwise, anyone can give me a buzz to see my paintings at the huge studio I am fortunate to have in Eygalières - it is also my own gallery space where I meet so many interesting people, buyers or not.

Bye for now ....
About My Art:
Figurative, expressionist, whatever ? It just happens .... but in a workaholic frenzy.
I so often ask myself, why am I compelled to produce paintings when it is the last item on people's shopping list, especially in tumultuous times like these ?
I only wish I knew ..... but most painters live long lives so I might have time enough to answer my own question.
Favorite Music:
Opera
Monteverdi
Bach (all)
Schubert - piano and chamber music
Richard Strauss
Beethoven - sonatas and chamber music
Schostakovitch
Chopin
Quite a lot of Bartok
etc.etc...
Favorite Films:
Don't go much although 'The Pianist' by Roman Polanski would rate as one of the most moving and best films I've ever seen, as does Cabaret and most of the creations of Bob Fosse.
'Shadowlands' is also on my list, definitely, if only for the acting.
Any old black and white films with Cary Grant !!
Favorite Artists:
Too many to enumerate although Vermeer, Egon Schiele, Hopper would rate very high as would Rothko, everyone's choice it would seem .... Last but not least, Jenny Saville, who is the most brilliant painter I know of today.

Carolyn, Its Monday and I emailed you this morning saying we got the photos. THe pricing in the gallery has always been in £'s . We need to sell in £'s as we are based in London. Are they changed from what they were originally in pounds. If you give the price in euros we convert it. Always have done.

I like this painting a lot, the composition reminds me of religious Renaissance paintings. The man doing the razorblades trick whilst the reclining figure gazes out with that fed up longing that just once she and her primate would be centre stage. Maybe I am misreading the whole piece... I do want to know more about it.

hi don't think mixing is a problem especially if we put in context of a long period of work so interests change. I thought on track , self portrait, woman looking for a job, woman missing, then a mountain, mistral rousillon, crash but don't know if they work shape wise which is a stupid consideration but there it is. is there a context of time we can use. I didn't see the other pieces you mentionned

Hi Carolyn,

Just got your finished interview now I'm writing it up. Wanted to ask which paintings do you think I should use. You have such a selection and I finally have the time with the interviews to select the pieces more carefully. If there is any thing popularity, earlier work later work so I can do you justice.

Carolyn, I was only joking, don't take me so seriously :-) Of course I knew what you meant ! With regard to prices, my reference was to the effect that I agree with you 100%, and hope to see the market recover adequately to the extent that artist's are not expected / obliged to reduce prices set from past bench-marks. I myself have not reduced my prices. I may on occasion discuss and agree a price directly with the buyer, but any discount given would not be extensive and is not made public.

Hang in there, Marc is a good guy and I'm confident something good will come of your association with him. Think about it, galleries need good, new work to draw "new" customers to their doors. If galleries are not prepared to expand their horizons and get new, alternative work on the walls, it's no wonder they are struggling !
