Profile Information

About Me:
I consider myself a very cheerful and curious person. Every day life objects and intense colours are my main language.
About My Art:
My interests lie within the barriers between people due to misunderstanding. I have found that through common elements in every day life, I can identify with people not only of my own culture, but from very different cultures; to avoid judging someone, meaning needs to step back and wait for a later step.

Through the photographs I present, I intend to create a space for dialogue in between the spectators (based on the dialogue in between the series through colour, composition, material, etc.), where their own meanings, inspired by these images, can be spoken to others. I seek for an encouragement to open ourselves into understanding more about "others" and their lives; this is what makes my work complete.
Favorite Music:
Iron and Wine, Regina Spektor, Emiliana Torrini, Joshua Radin...

Thank you for the software help! I use newspaper, cloth, wood, and metal in my paintings to get the texture. The more materials gives more textures and more depth but for graphic pieces I stay with mostly acrylic. I look forward to see more of your work!

Hi Andrea,

I love number 35 on your slide show and really enjoy your work. If I may ask - how did you get the slide show at the top of the screen above the profile information?

Apart from the fact I need to paint that door, I enjoy the quality of the imperfect, which is often overlooked, cracks in pavements, old houses and rusted metal. The Japanese have a term and philosophy which embodies all the aspects, which I use in my ceramic and 'found object' work....
Wabi-sabi is the quintessential Japanese aesthetic. It is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. It is a beauty of things unconventional...
It is also two separate words, with related but different meanings. "Wabi" is the kind of perfect beauty that is seemingly-paradoxically caused by just the right kind of imperfection, such as an asymmetry in a ceramic bowl which reflects the handmade craftsmanship, as opposed to another bowl which is perfect, but soul-less and machine-made.
"Sabi" is the kind of beauty that can come only with age, such as the patina on a very old bronze statue.
Enjoy your work, I look forward to seeing more of your images, check out my son's Richard's page, he also takes some interesting photos of decay (Little Poland).
regards kelvin
