Saatchi Online versus MyArtinfo.com

There are two web sites vying to become the Amazon/Yahoo for the art world - Saatchi Online at www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk and MyArtinfo at www.myartinfo.com.

Which do use as an artist and why? Is one better then the other?

Do you use them yourself. As a gallerist it is interesting to peruse the work of the unknowns out there but I find them too massive to really be of any interest and undiscriminating to be really helpful.

I use both of them currently - too early to tell which is better, but Saatchi Online has considerably more traffic and a higher profile.

I'm not quite sure exactly what value they offer artists as yet and am a little negative about their top down approach and desires to control the art market??

Yep, that's why I set up b-uncut - so artists really do have a private club for themselves online that will always be friendly and community oriented. It is after all pretty much the only one founded, created and monitored by an artist. That should make quite a difference, but early days here too.

Task one is to develop the community here and task 2 develop the conversation, content and culture. And all this outside my day job as professional artist. I must be mad.

Hi long time no post. Got the new computer, got some marketing done, got the website up, almost have time to breathe...saw this thread and thought I'd take a minute and chime in whilst looking for some information. I am looking for places to post the gallery and our classes and workshops. Partly for seach engine rankings and partly for exposure. I have my local stuff any other ideas? Are either of these 2 places good for that? I will post a B-Cut link after I get permission from the boss.

I would sign up for both. You have nothing to lose and they are free. It will also not take you very long - but might help gradually seed you into a more national/international environment. Get to know the sites over time and you will be able to do more. For instance, Saatchi Online has a section called links where you can promote your site and gallery.

Me too - the site seems to be down. I know it wasn't doing very well - but not aware of it closing. Lets keep an eye on it.

Hello everybody!

Me too. None of them works! Not even from google or their own! - I just got a newsletter from ARTINFO and I thought "OK! here's my chance to get to MYARTINFO profile..." and clicked MYARTINFO link at ARTINFO website above right and my google says in german:

"the webseite under http://www.myartinfo.com/ is probably momentarily out of reach (use), or is to be called under a new address."

I think they are just improving the whole thing...

About Saatchi or myartinfo - I think both. None of us wants to be under the spot lights but it is our responsability to make ourselves (our work) visible to gallerists art collectors and talent hunters,...

In my opinion it has to be Saatchi, but I agree, go for both you have nothing to lose.
